Kristi Barnes
Barnes began her journalism career as a copy editor at The Orion. While attending Chico State, she also served as entertainment editor and won the Dow Jones Newspaper Fund copy editing scholarship. Since then, Barnes has edited a variety of newspapers, magazines and websites, including Videomaker, Radio & Records, AOL’s Digital City and USA Today. She manages the advertising publications department of The Seattle Times, overseeing four editors, three blogs and more than 200 weekly and special sections per year.
Wayne Miyamoto
Miyamoto served as the second managing editor of The Orion during the 1975-76 school year. Upon graduation, he joined the Yuba City Morning Herald as city editor, and moved up to managing editor in 1978. He left the news business in 1979 to pursue the blossoming high-tech industry. He has worked at AT&T Bell Labs, Cisco Systems Inc. and partnered in a successful startup, INFLOW. Today, Miyamoto advises various directors of U.S. government agencies in cyber-security policy and management.
Elizabeth Roberts
A 1990 graduate, Roberts served as a reporter and arts/entertainment editor for The Orion and won two section and headline awards in 1988, the year the paper won its first national Pacemaker Award. She went on to work at the Chico Enterprise-Record, covered police for the Manteca Bulletin and has worked as a copy editor and page designer for the past 15 years at The Record in Stockton, where she also writes an antiques column. She is married to retired journalist Dennis Roberts and her daughter Kati is in college.
