Technology

By Nicole Benbow

This day and age is a theater of sorts.  The stage is set, the costumes ready and the puppets… well, just who should play that part?  It seems like the population is competing to be cast in this play many would call Short Attention Span Theater.

The playwright is truly one of a kind.  The plot of the story will grab the audience by their seats and suck them right in. The summary of the play is about how people’s brains are now similar to small ricocheting balls in pinball machines; they bounce from one side to the next with just the smallest nudge.

People have become accustomed to getting anything and everything they want or need with just a flick of the wrist, pressing a power button or through the power of the Internet.  People are assaulted with so much information that it is impossible to know what to do with all of it.  They have adapted their personal preferences to only accept a fast paced nation that thrives on the here and now.

E-mail.

Cell phones.

Blogs.

iPods.

With all of the technology available now, it is hard for the actors to keep up on the latest trends.  These new devices are changing the way they think and act.  Multi-tasking is now considered a necessity, and it is hard to stay focused on one thing for an extended period of time.

Luckily, this play is obviously from some type of planet off in the far distance and Americans have no reason to be worried about…

…sorry, I got distracted by a text message.  What was I saying?  Oh right…

Americans have no reason to be worried about this happening to them though.
