The Joy of Brewing

Hailing from Chico, Calif., a resident knows what it takes to make the beer taste buds titillate. However few know what goes into a brew in order to achieve that effect.

With award-winning and internationally known Sierra Nevada Brewery in our backyard, it is easy to imagine why Northern Californians are particular when in comes to their beverages. Not only that, there is a plethora of breweries in the vicinity of Northern California.

With access and quality as an issue... why homebrew? Well, according to Dawn Letner, owner of the Home Brew Shop in Chico, home brewing is not only a fun social hobby, but also provides personal satisfaction when the beer comes out exactly how the brewer imagined.

"I like to make fresh salsa," she explained. "It is something I can do to share. I could go to Safeway and buy a container of it, but I know that it will not be as good." Making fresh beer can be the same way.
