Screams of excitement echo from Bear Hole each day that the hot sun beats down on Chico.
Scantily clad young men and women hop from rock to rock to find the perfect spot to leap into the water.  Big Chico Creek's chilling crystal waters flow quickly through the nearby diversion dam and over lava-formed rocks to create quite an unforgettable sight which makes Bear Hole a very popular area.

"Bear Hole is hands down my favorite place in Bidwell Park to hang out with friends," said  Carrie Karnegis a Chico State University student.  "This is the spot where you can always find plenty of guys and girls having a good time when the weather heats up."

An occasional condom wrapper or beer bottle (alcohol is against park rules) can sometimes be found littering the ground at Bear Hole. These are usually a sign that someone has been enjoying themselves, but overall the site is quite an experience for either the first-time visitor or long-time patron. 

Bear Hole offers anyone the chance to reconnect with the natural world just a few miles outside downtown Chico. Take in the sights, take in the smells and take a moment to fully appreciate the beauty of Bidwell Park.

Although Bear Hole is a relatively safe place for all who choose to visit, an emergency phone is located by the parking lot for any person who may be in need of assistance. It must be noted that there have been several incidents at Bear Hole which have ended in death due to the cold, fast moving water and carelessness. Please be aware of the dangers before you decide to take a swim, especially if you are not with friends who may be able to help if you are in need.
