Screams of excitement echo
from Bear Hole each day that the hot sun beats down on Chico.
An occasional condom wrapper or beer bottle (alcohol is against park rules) can sometimes be found littering the ground at Bear Hole. These are usually a sign that someone has been enjoying themselves, but overall the site is quite an experience for either the first-time visitor or long-time patron. Bear Hole offers anyone the
chance to reconnect with the natural world just a few miles outside downtown
Chico. Although Bear Hole is a relatively safe place for all who choose to visit, an emergency phone is located by the parking lot for any person who may be in need of assistance. It must be noted that there have been several incidents at Bear Hole which have ended in death due to the cold, fast moving water and carelessness. Please be aware of the dangers before you decide to take a swim, especially if you are not with friends who may be able to help if you are in need. Look in the related links section to read more about the possible danger of the rushing Big Chico Creek water. The beauty, seclusion and close
proximity to Chico make Bear Hole one of the top five hot spots in Bidwell
Park. Bear Hole is easily reached by hike, bike or car. Grab
a towel and get some friends to visit today. If the sun is out,
you won't be alone.
