Pop your tent on the Internet.
Go on-line and check out and reserve campsites across America. Campsites exist all over the country, and chances are there’s one for you in your backyard or 500 miles away.

At reserveAmerica.com you can reserve a campsite on-line for states including California, Massachusetts, Oregon, New York, Texas andWisconsin.

You can learn about campsites in other states, but can’t make reservations on-line. The cite does offers reservation phone numbers. I decided to check out Pheiffer campground in Big Sur. I found out all about the campground. There’s a map that cites showering and restroom facilities, hiking areas and river and group camping sites. It’s easy to book a reservation. Just type in the month, dates and area you'd like to camp in. You can book your trip quick and have more time to pack up the car.

You can do more than make reservation at parks.ca.gov. Read about park preservation and how to enjoy off-road recreation. You can also read about park's histories and search through lists of campgrounds on California's riversides. You can even narrow your search to a specific area. I decided to check out the San Francisco Bay Area campgrounds. Samuel P. Taylor camp sits in the middle of Marin County. When I clicked to get more info about the park, information and pictures of the campground appeared on the screen. You can also link back to reserveAmerica.com from here to make reservations.

For those semi-adventurous types who don't like dirt and fear squirrels, try camping on a houseboat. Go to houseboat.net and book a boat almost anywhere in the country. The cite includes rental locations and maps to find your boating destination. This cite also lists tips for first-time houseboaters on anchoring, drinking, diving, night cruising, fuel and bad weather. You can also request a houseboating brochure through e-mail.

If popping a tent and cruising a houseboat still isn't domestic enough for you try a literal houseboat. In Sausalito, Calif., you can rent a floating home. Check out globalstore.com.au/boat.htm to see a picture of the floating home and make reservations.
