It's more than just kicking and punching It's a philosophy of life by Raissa Rocha |
| They
kick, punch, lock and hold with mind and body. They must have knowledge,
but they must also feel it. They are intellectually and physically disciplined.
They are masters of martial arts.
Martial arts are considered complex combat systems that are balanced by the fundamental unity of body and mind, spirit and matter, male and female, and Yin and Yang with the universe. Because they are based on this harmony, they don't promote the defeat of the opponent. During a combat, their goal is to neutralize an attack by any means, as rapidly as possible. Since there is a complex interplay with psychology, philosophy and practical thought, many Americans have shown an increasing interest in learning about martial arts. Eastern cultures such as the Chinese, Korean and Japanese have broken through the traditional thought that martial arts are not a sport. These cultures see martial arts as a way to perpetuate their culture, philosophy and ideology by bringing their millennial theories and practices to the Western world. In Chico, some cultures are being perpetuated through the practice of the Ju-Jitsu, Tae Kwon Do and Karate. |
