Shopping
for Creature Comforts

| It's
not unheard of to see someone walking down the street carrying a small
dog, or leading it on a leash, clad in a custom-made sweater or similar
garb. Looking beyond the obvious fur coat provided to them genentically,
some pet owners like to shop 'til they drop in order to ensure that little
Fido stays warm.
The Adorable Pet Boutique is a site that specializes in clothes for pint-sized pups, like Chihuahuas or Toy Poodles. And the selection isn't limited to any old doggy dress line, they have patterns for all occasions. Visitors on the site can choose from an assortment of materials, like Valentine's Day cupids. And even people who don't dress their pets will still bend over backwards for their feline and canine companions, spending time shopping for designer dog food and first-class cat carriers. C.T. Eckstrom, a senior at Chico State University, said he doesn't think he goes too far for his puppy, Princess Leia, but when he does she deserves it. "After my family she is the most important thing to me in the world," Eckstrom said. But when it comes to pampering his pooch, there are lines he doesn't cross. She did get a steak on her birthday, but you won't find Eckstrom shopping for canine cookbooks any time soon. "I don't even cook for myself," he said. One site to find a cookbook full of pet-friendly recipes calls itself a Web site for "discriminating pets and their people." CoolPetStuff.com, is an online catalog of all sorts of products for pets and their owners. For Fluffy who travels with her owner regularly, there is luggage for cats and dogs. There is also a section for "really unusual stuff" including a ceramic water bowl in the shape of a toilet for dogs. For the felines, "really unusual stuff" includes a package of kitty treats inside a wine-shaped bottle, complete with cork. |
