Sunbathers are given a similar warning to protect themselves against the sun. Frequent sun soakers are told to wear sunscreen, protective clothing and eye wear when tanning. The sun not only effects our skin but our eyes too! You know, sunglasses weren't made to start a fashion trend. They were made to protect the eyes from the effects of UV light. This leads
right in to the tanning products every sunbather should have. No
one wants to have a sunburn, let alone have one on the eyeball. Ouch!!
Tanning products were made to help prevent these things from happening.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration even requires people to wear
protective eye wear in tanning booths.
Here are some suggestions for sunbathers: 1. Always use sunscreen!!! Sunscreen doesn't keep you from getting a tan. It keeps you from burning and permanently damaging your skin. Even if you aren't "laying out" you should always use lotion that has some SPF (sun protection factor) in it. You are constantly being exposed to UV rays. 2. Always wear protective glasses. They were made to protect, so use 'em! Your eyelids do not tan, they burn. Closing your eye doesn't protect them from the sun. You can even risk getting brunescent cataracts. These give a clouding effect to the eye, and they are permanent! 3. Always wear protective clothing. If you are tanning at the beach, bring a hat. The simple task of wearing a hat protects your face and serves as a landmark for those who can't find you. You never want to overexpose your skin to the sun. Wearing clothing that covers sensitive areas only helps your skin out in the long run.
