As it turns out, my concerns for my sister were somewhat unnecessary. If you have AOL, there is a free feature called parental controls. Once on AOL, all you have to do is go to keywords, and type in parental controls. From there it will automatically bring up a list of your screen names and provide you with choices of what each will be: "general," "mature teens," "young teens" and "kids only." "Kids only" cannot even access the Internet. A friend of mine, Jenifer Shock, 23, said she tried the feature. "The problem was I still received junk e-mail with titles like, 'I want you to lick my ----' and 'kinky teen dildos,'" she said. "And it wouldn't let me access Chico State sites as a "mature teen" because it didn't have the proper rating." Turns out my sister isn't in the clear after all. I guess one of those filters will soon be getting some business from the Kalantari family. |
