Do Web sites profit from MP3s?

Many people wonder what Web sites get out of offering free music off the Internet. The answer is, very little. The Web creator of Pure MP3, Jamuraa, who offers music for free at his site, said with the exception of advertising, he doesn't make any money distributing music.

"Personally, I do not get anything out of giving out MP3s because I don't give them out, people take them. However, while I provide a service, I sell advertisements on my page, and I get income that way. Granted, it is not my primary source of income," Jamuraa said. "Most people get nothing out of giving out MP3s on the Net. Bands usually can get a little out of giving them away by selling their CDs to the people who like them a lot but most MP3 sites gain nothing."
