Personality isn't everything Wendy could be living in Colorado right now, but she let Bill, 26, return to the Rockies without her. When Wendy, 25, was in a chat room one October day, finding romance was the last thing on her mind. "I wasn't interested in meeting anyone," she said. "I was just online to pass time." That's when she met Bill. They quickly became chummy and e-mailed each other every day for two months before exchanging phone numbers. Butterflies were swarming her stomach, especially because Bill didn't know her real name, only her nickname, "luvamaninuniform." But the phone call went well, and the Internet lovers planned the next move in their long-distance romance as carefully as a chess player before moving the Bishop. Bill planned a trip to see his family on the East Coast and they decided to meet each other in person. But when they exchanged photos, he didn't fit her type. She told him that she wasn't interested in a relationship, but he still wanted to meet. While Bill set out on his 2,000 mile journey to Connecticut, Wendy panicked and arranged a network of spies consisting of a friend to chaperone her and Bill, while four other friends followed the group around. They went to a casino, a museum and a nightclub. "It was a very quick weekend," Wendy said. "He was a gentleman and I loved the attention, but there were no sparks from my end." Bill didn't feel the same way. Before he left, he asked Wendy to go back with him to Colorado. "That freaked me out a little," Wendy said, so the correspondents said their goodbyes and Bill left. "To say the least, the e-mails and phone calls have stopped because I didn't want to continue it," Wendy said. "And now I have to pay for the long distance bills." Those long distance bills totaled $550. Still, Wendy said it was a good experience and she doesn't regret it, but she wouldn't do it again. If they hadn't met, Wendy said she and Bill probably would have continued to e-mail each other. "But he was looking for something more that I couldn't give him at that time in my life," she said.
