Awards: Outstanding Journalism Teacher of the Year at a Four-Year University by the California Newspaper Publishers Association,1998; Freedom Forum Teaching Fellowship; an Institute for Journalism Excellence Fellowship from the American Society of Newspaper Editors.

Awards: Alan H. Monroe Scholar for excellence in professional research and scholarship, Purdue University; Bruce Kendall Award for excellence in teaching, Purdue University; outstanding teaching award from the International Communication Association. 
Course Specialties: Intro to Online Journalism, Writing for Mass Media, Public Affairs Reporting, Magazine Writing, News Editing & Copy Reading.
