Bakersfield College
Bakersfield College was founded in 1913 and is one of the nation's oldest continually-operating community colleges. The college serves 15,000 students on the 153-acre main campus in northeast Bakersfield. It offers a variety of programs to help students accomplish their goals, whether it is to earn an associate degree, transfer to a four-year institution, gain new job skills or explore lifelong learning opportunities.
The Renegade Rip is Bakersfield College's award-winning student newspaper that has been published regularly as part of the campus community since 1929. Students on the paper learn the writing, photography and graphic skills they need for a career in communications.
Media Academy High School
The campus of the Fremont Federation of High Schools hosts four small, autonomous high schools in the Fruitvale neighborhood of Oakland. The four schools are the Architecture Academy, Mandela High, Media Academy, Robeson Visual and Performing Arts.
The Media Academy is a small school built around journalism as an academic discipline and career area. It seeks to retain at-risk youth and expose all students to a career area that is actively seeking more diverse students, especially if they are bilingual. The school’s language arts curriculum is both English and Spanish. The Media Academy focuses media communications as an effective way to develop students' skills in reading, writing and speaking two languages.
Modesto Junior College
Modesto Junior College is one of the oldest community colleges in the state, organized in 1921. The college serves more than 16,000 students. Modesto Junior College provides a comprehensive student-centered learning community through instructional and student-support programs that respond to the educational needs of the diverse community.
Southwestern College
Southwestern College is one of 109 public community colleges in the state of California, and the only institute of higher education located in the southern portion of San Diego County. Serving approximately 18,000 students annually, Southwestern College offers more than 285 associate degree and certificate options.
Southwestern College has continuously received accreditation by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Whether pursuing an associate degree, preparing to transfer to a four-year college or university or acquiring new occupational skills, students attending Southwestern College are given every opportunity to meet their educational goals. Southwestern College is also the third highest associate degree producer in the nation for Hispanic students.
