Zuri Berry
Zuri Berry is a sports writer and online community manager for The Union in Grass Valley. After graduating from Chico State in 2007, he worked as an intern at the Marin Independent Journal in Novato through the MediaNews Group Journalism and Diversity Partnership, in conjunction with the Sports Journalism Institute.
Berry won second place for columns in the California Newspaper Publishers Association Better Newspaper contest for newspapers with a circulation of 10,000 - 25,000 in 2008.
He continues to pen a weekly sports column while managing TheUnion.com's editorial content.
Sharon Yep
Sharon Yep, San Francisco native and 2007 graduate of Chico State, received her bachelor’s degree in journalism with an option in news-editorial. She also worked as a copy-editing intern at the San Jose Mercury News in summer 2007.
During her time at Chico State, she served on The Orion for five semesters and was named one of the top 10 student journalists in the country by the Scripps Howard Foundation in 2006.
Before graduating in December 2007, she accepted a full-time job offer from the Arizona Republic in Phoenix. She worked the night shift at the copy desk for nearly a year before being laid off.
Yep now lives in Washington, D.C., and works as an editor at the National Academy of Sciences' public information office.
