K Δ Π - Alpha Nu Chapter Meeting Minutes

May 14th, 2004

The Alpha Nu Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi met in BMU 312 at 3:00 PM on May 14th for a chapter meeting. The meeting was called to order by the President. The following officers were present as well as advisor Darryl Eisele:

ORDER OF BUSINESS

Call to Order: 3:06 PM
Old Business: * Presentation of gifts and certificates for old officers and Darryl Eisele by Amanda Belloni.
* Bake Sale:
May 17th (10-4). Sign up with Gina S. to volunteer
New Business: * Presentation of “Top Three” member prizes: Congratulations to Courtney Pope, Meagan Bolton, and Jenny Stewart!!!
* Introduction of new president, Nova Katz: She is excited and has plenty of fun ideas; Psychology major with minor in Spanish; “Thank you” to last year’s officers!
* Ice Breaker: Meet someone you haven’t met before. Turn around and change three things about your appearance and have your person guess what you changed.
* A word form Gina Duarte: Encourage people to join KDP for an opportunity to make a difference, not just as a resume builder (paraphrased).
* Snack Time!!!

Continue Spring Into Reading: make it an annual event
          - Inspirational guest speakers: set and lock dates early
          - Teacher testimonials for meetings
          - Student-teacher display of their students’ artwork in a display case on campus
          - Penny drive: members and officers carry decorated cans to collect pennies
          - Faculty versus student golf tournament
          - Mock Interviews and Resume Check Day
* Pros of last year:

Communication between members and officers
          - Meeting reminder phone calls
          - Sharing personal experiences
          - Liberal Studies transfer student promotion of KDP
          - Round Table meetings
* Cons of last year:
- Address and phone # updates
            - Update through headquarters
            - Membership lists with dues paid and current information update
* Goals for next year:
          -
Publicity for meetings
          - One-on-one communication with members: talk to members to see why they don’t attend the meetings and what would make them more likely to attend.
          - Written survey for information from members
          - Add-on page to application to get additional information from members
          - Have an agenda for meeting to inform people of during reminder phone calls
          - Have sign-up sheets at initiation for future activities
          - Utilize e-mail
          - Honor graduating KDP members
Announcements: * "Getting Connected” Orientation Fall 2004:  If you have any tips that you would like to share with incoming freshman, this is for you!  It takes place Aug. 20th from 10-12 and free lunch will be provided for volunteers.  For more information contact: Rebecca Berner (Rberner2@csuchico.edu or call 898-6450).
* Congratulations to Amanda Belloni for being a winner of the prestigious Rawlins Merit Award!
* RIF Week certificate of appreciation from Kappa Delta Pi presented by Darryl Eisele. Congratulations Alpha Nu Chapter!
