Connie Brennan (Guest Speaker): Liberal Studies Changes:
* All of the CA Liberal Studies major has changed, not just CSUC.
* Those currently in the Liberal Studies major have catalogue rights.
However, for those just beginning (in their first or second semester),
it will be more beneficial to follow the new guidelines. Especially for
CSET (NCLB) purposes.
* For all the current course substitutions, deletions, and additions,
* Supplementary credentials are not currently available. They will be
changed to a form of "degree authorization": a 32 unit program of
courses. Talk to the head of the single subject department for further
information. Details have not yet been decided.
* The CSET will be necessary for graduation in Fall 2005 or later.
Although it is not mandatory beforehand, you will need to pass the CSET
for hiring purposes in order to comply with NCLB.
* Subject matter portfolio reviews are no longer necessary; speak with
your advisor.
* The CliffsNotes Study Guide and the CSET website are great study
tools.
* There are three separate CSET tests for Liberal Studies majors:
Reading/Language & Literacy/History/Social Science,
Science/Mathematics, Physical Education/Human Development/Visual and
Performing Arts (VAPA). Each test is $72 a piece. You may take them all
at once (not recommended), or one at a time. For in-depth information,
Voting: The next semester and
a half will be largely devoted to the Red Cross Measles Initiative.
Announcements: Next meeting:
