ORDER OF
BUSINESS
Call to Order: 5:00 P.M.
Old Business: * Up 'Til Dawn went wonderfully!
* Bake Sale helpers are
needed! Please contact Gina S! If you plan on bringing items to sell,
please do not cover them with aluminum foil. It is policy that all food
must be covered, therefore plastic wrap would be much more appropriate.
Individually wrapped items also sell well.
New Business: * Jamie Starmer - EDUCATION CAREER FAIR:
- As KDP is a co-sponsor of the Education
Career Fair, we have the exceptional opportunity to socialize with
school administration early on in our job hunt.
- The number of districts attending this event
has dropped considerably due to recent budgeting, but don't let it
dissuade you! Within a few years, things will turn around! Unfortunately,
multiple subject candidates have been the hardest hit; have patience
and be flexible with regards to location and supplement credentials.
- A handful of members will participate and
help recruiters by shuttling their equipment, setting-up booths,
providing water and lunches, etc.
- Advertising is not a priority, as most in
their credential year are already fully aware of the fair.

* Jamie Starmer - RESUMES:
- General tips:
-- Keep your
resume to one page.
-- Don't use MS
Word templates. They are too restrictive and lack enough space to
present an adequate amount of information.
-- Be sure that
they are aesthetically pleasing (i.e.: easy to read!).
-- Put your most
important information at the top (i.e.: your credential).
-- Add other
work experience (such as counseling, coaching, or previous work
experience in other areas) to demonstrate a diversity of
accomplishments.
-- Punctuation,
punctuation, punctuation!!!
-- Are you able
to speak another language? Are you fluent? Bilingual? Can you carry a
conversation?
-- Add your GPA,
if it benefits you.
-- Use lighter
paper as it copies clearer.
-- When
discussing tutoring experience, be sure to describe what kind of
tutoring you did.
