See also: contents note display
Contents notes supply information about the contents and coverage of unanalyzed multivolume sets or single volume anthologies. These notes are often the basis for additional access fields for title, and author/title [In CLCat, contents notes are access
ible in the keyword indexes.]
New Cataloging:
Contents notes should be provided, when appropriate, for original cataloging, and added entries made for certain types of contents information. For example contents notes should be provided when some, but not all, volumes of a monographic set have distin ctive titles (or author/title), when the coverage of individual volumes (subject or chronology) needs to be brought out, and when the contents of a single volume could be published as a separate work (individual plays, novels, long essays, etc.)
For copy cataloging, contents notes found in available on-line records should be retained. When an OCLC record contains a 505 field do not delete this field even if it does not transfer in its entirety to the CLSI display record. The complete field is a ccessible in the keyword indexes of CLCat. If the OCLC record does not have a 505 field, but it is felt that such a field would be useful, refer the record with the book.
Added volumes
Add title to contents note if it is not present.
