ADDED ENTRIES FOR HEADINGS BEGINNING WITH ACRONYMNS

POLICY

For titles, subjects, or corporate authors with acronyms (e.g.: KGB today), OCLC makes an added entry with the letters separated by periods (e.g.: 740 00 K.G.B. today). This is supposed to distinguish KGB (a word) from K G B (initials). Unfortunately , CLSI handles K.G.B. as though it were KGB (it drops the periods and removes the resulting spaces)

We want the letters to be separated by spaces (e.g.: K G B) In order to do this for CLSI, go into the added entry field and create spaces between the letters of the acronym (e.g.: "K. G. B. today" rather than "K.G.B. today")

If the periods are in the 245 or the 1xx fields, put spaces in those fields and make sure there's an added entry without spaces. Make sure there's a 246:

245 00 K.G.B. Today

change to

245 00 K. G. B. Today

and add

246 3[blank] KGB today

Use these procedures on any record that needs, or makes, an added entry for for titles or corporate authors whose entries begin with (or included in the first 5 words) acronymns.
