STANDARDS FOR BIBLIOGRAPHIC DESCRIPTION AND CATALOGING

POLICY

Discussion Draft, Feb. 18, 1985; rev. Nov. 30, 1989

It is the general policy in the Bibliographic Services Dept. to adhere to full national standards for cataloging of library materials for content, form, and Marc tagging. All cataloged materials must have a MARC (Machine Readable Cataloging Record) in order to appear in the On-line Catalog. These standards are contained in such publications as:

  • Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, Second Edition, Revised

  • OCLC bibliographic standards

  • Addenda to AACR2 for various bibliographic formats

  • Library of Congress rule interpretations

  • Cataloging Service Bulletin
