CHECKING FOR A MATCH:

OCLC RECORD AND BOOK

The following information should match between book and OCLC record in order to determine that the record is a match:

  1. Main title (245 #a)

  2. Publishing information (Publisher, Date) (260 #b, #c)

  3. Edition information (250 or 500 field)

  4. Pagination (300 field, especially #a and #c)

  5. Author information (1xx or 7xx fields). This information is sometimes not traced even though the record matches. If author information differs, yet the other criteria are met, you should refer the book and record.

If you find only records for the work that do not match edition and publication information refer these records for editing.

If you cannot find any record whatsoever relating to the book, refer book to the "No Copy" shelf.
