COMPACT DISCS

BARCODING AND PROCESSING

Last edited: November 16, 1994

On CD:

We will place the barcode directly on the printed top side of a compact disc in order to be consistent about barcoding the primary component. A call number will also be attached to the compact disc. These identifiers may have to obscure the least vital information printed on the disc.

On case:

A call number and title label will be placed on the outside of the plastic case.

A property stamp will be placed on the outside of the plastic case.

These identifiers will be placed around the edges of the lid that opens in such a way to least obscure the printing on the compact disc and the barcode.

Accompanying materials:

Accompanying inserts will be removed and placed in manila folders cut to size with tape hinge.

A call number, title label, and property stamp should be placed on the front cover of manila folder, leaving about 1/2 inch down from the top of the top left-hand corner of the folder for Limited Loan to apply their colored tape strip.

The barcode will be attached in the inside back cover of manila folder in the upper right corner. This will leave maximum room for checkout slips to be attached.

Other accompanying materials that are not inserts will receive the usual processing treatments:

Some may be placed in letter size manila folders by tape hinge

Labels go on outside of manila folder.

Barcodes are placed in center of inside back folder.

Call numbers may be written in pencil on the items themselves.

Other bound materials will have: Reinforcement if necessary.

Call number labels on outside covers or spines.

Call numbers written inside the covers or verso of a title page.

Barcodes inside the back covers

Taping over the labels on covers and folders still recommended.
