Instructions for Copy Catalogers

EDITIONS WITHOUT LC CALL NUMBERS (050, 090)

If you find that the catalog copy for a work does not contain a standard LC call number and the work is an edition of an earlier work (reprint, variant, etc.), search for copy for another edition or version of work in HORIZON (and OCLC).

If the other edition is found on HORIZON, or if it is found on OCLC with DLC copy, use the call number of that edition as the basis for a new call number if you are familiar with the procedures for modifying it to match the work in hand (if the records are the same except for publishing date, change, or add date reflecting new edition in hand). Otherwise, print the record with the LC classification and insert in book. Place book and print-out on GENERAL REFERRAL shelf.
