Procedures for Exporting Records with Differing
Collection Codes
to 1 Export File
If you use only 1 export file for records with different
collection codes when you export, only those items with collection
codes accounted for in the Import Sources will import correctly (e.g.
if you have a reference item and you use the "mainm" Import Source,
the reference item's circulation indicator will allow it to check
out)
You can get around this problem in several ways:
- If your batch of export records contains only items that
circulate (use "mainm" for monographs from main collection,
folio, X-folio, and thesis), you may add $k [collection code] to
the 949 fields of items that are not specifically in "Main
Collection":
e.g. 949 $b 30200001041919 $k mainf for a folio item
- This works only if you do not put a location stamp in the
090 or 050. It is recommended that you don’t put the location
stamp in any call number field other than the 914/945.
- You can also use the
"circ" import source and put
a subfield $k in every 949 field
Use for any collection that circulates and
uses LC call numbers except Limited Loan)
e.g. 949 $b 30200001041919 $k mains
- For items in collections that do not circulate use the
"circnon" import source
and put a subfield $k in every 949 field (refer, refes, any
collection that does not circulate)
e.g. 949 $b 30200001041919 $k refes
- For items in the nonprint
collection use the
"nonprnt" import source
and put a subfield $k after the subfield $b, with the appropriate
nonprint collection code
e.g. 949 $b 30200001041919 $k videc
- For electronic resources, use
the "circnon" import
source and enter only the $k collection code. This will create a
bogus barcode.
e.g. 949 $k elecp
- For periodicals use
"percirc" and a $k only
with the appropriate collection code.
e.g. 949 $k perio
- Use the "zOCLC" import
source and fill out all subfields of the 949 field for any
collection code
e.g. 949 $b 3020001041919 $w BS1049 A43 1998 $k videc $l lim $m
L72h will produce a video item in limited loan, with 72 hour
circulation and call number BS1049 A43 1998
The following require a subfield "k" for collection in addition to
subfield "b"
- circ circulating
(include $k collection for all things that circulate)
- circnon non
circulating (include $k collection for all things that don’t
circulate)
The following requires all item subfields and can be used
for any type of material:
- zOCLC Add 949
items with all subfields for any type
