DEFINITION: A monograph complete, or intended to be completed, in a finite number of separate parts.
The most familiar kind of set is a multivolume encyclopedia, published under a single title, with volumes designated by volume numbers.
Multipart items may or may not have titles for the individual parts that are independent of the monograph title. If the volume titles are not distinctive and likely to be searched for by the library user, they are given only in a contents note.
