Variable Fields

  • INPUTTING LIBRARY: 040 -- OCLC will automatically supply "CCH" in this field when record is updated.

  • GEOG COV. : 043 -- If thesis is about a particular geographic location, use the appropriate geographical location code (from OCLC list of codes)

  • HOLDINGS : 049 -- Always CCHW #c :

  • MAIN ENTRY : 100 -- Input name as found on the title page. Use appropriate indicators. If author has a double last name, check the name as formatted on microfiche for correct format.

  • TITLE : 245 -- Input title and subtitle (if one exists) from title page. Follow with slash ("/") subfield c (#c) and name as appears on title page.

  • IMPRINT : 260 -- Always use first indicator "1" and input only a date in subfield "c". There is no publisher or location.

  • COLLATION : 300 -- 1. Input number of leaves, not pages; 2. space/colon/space (if followed by illustration statement, if not use space/semi-colon/space); 3. illustration statement (if applicable); 4. space/semi-colon/space; 5. size (most thesis are 28 cm.)

  • NOTE FIELDS : 502 -- Input following note:

    Thesis (M.A.)--California State University, Chico.

    NOTE: Type of master's degree varies (M.A. M.B.A, M.F.A, etc.). Type of degree will be listed on title page.

  • Bibliography note 504 : Use name given by author to list of references ("References", "References Cited", etc.). If there is a title page for the references, bracket the starting leaf number.

  • 500 -- Input note (if thesis has an abstract): Includes abstract.

  • 590 -- Note about fiche: Also on microfiche.
