UKM COPY CATALOGING

(Criteria for Copy Cataloging)

Last udpated: Sept. 6, 1989

You may copy catalog any UKM record if it meets the following criteria:

  1. It has an 050 Call number or class number (see below)

  2. 1xx, 245, 260, 300, 504, 7xx fields have the correct information and are formatted and tagged correctly.

  3. There is at least one 6xx field with a 0 in the second indicator.

050 Class numbers only:

example: 050 14 QC571

Add the appropriate cutter number for the main entry and add the appropriate date. Put the complete call number in the 090 field. Remember to look up call number in CLSI to make sure it does not already duplicate an existing number.

6xx fields without 0 in second indicator:

example: 651 4 Alps #x Social life and customs

You may check the heading against the LC subject authority files (OCLC, CLSI, fiche, etc.) and use it if it is correct, changing the second indicator to a 0. If it does not match an authoritized heading, refer the record.
