Services Provided:
Provides
for the circulation of Meriam Librarys main collections, including:
checkout, checkin, renewal, placing of holds and recalling materials; issuance of courtesy
and nonaffiliated user cards for eligible individuals; collection
of moneys for overdue fines, lost materials, nonaffiliated
library cards, lockers; and maintenance of patron accounts. Also provides circulation control for reserve materials submitted by faculty in support of classroom instruction. Circulation & Reserve is the faculty's submission point for documents for electronic reserve supplementation of courses.
Employee Classification:
Student Employee I & II
Number of Students Employed: 10 to 12
Description of Duties: Assist patrons with the circulation of library
materials, including: checkout, checkin, renewal, and hold placement using
the Horizon computerized circulation system; collecting moneys for fines, lost
materials, lockers, and nonaffiliated user library cards; issuing courtesy
and nonaffiliated user cards; monitor circulation security system
at exit; light clerical; other related duties as assigned.
Experience Required: No previous work experience required
for Student Employee I; however, good communication skills,
experience with cash flow management, and some typing skills
desirable.

Student
Employee II & III (Technical)
Number of Students Employed: 1 to 2
Description of Duties: All duties assigned Student Employee I & II,
plus the running and collation of computerized department reports.
Experience Required: Student Employees at these levels
are promoted from within the unit. Student
Employee III & IV (Student Supervisor)
Number of Students Employed: 4 to 6
Description of Duties: All duties assigned Student Employee I and II,
plus supervision of workers in the absence of staff; opening and closing department;
securing funds and register; interpreting and enforcing library circulation policies;
processing patron problem alerts; processing
ID logs; processing returned mail; clearing collection sheets; other related
duties as assigned.
Experience Required: Student Employees at these levels
are promoted from within the unit.
Work Hours:
Student Employees work a minimum of 12 hours/week to a maximum of 20 hours/week.
During regular hours of operation, the Circulation Department retains a minimum
of one student employee, one student supervisor and/or one or more staff
