Student Personnel
* Student Employee Classification Levels & Wage Rates *

Objective : The objective of this classification and pay plan is to provide campus-wide consistency in recognizing differences in the duties, responsibilities, and skill levels required in work performed by Student Assistant and Work-Study employees. Utilizing the Web link below, area supervisors have the responsibility of determining the appropriate classification level and the corresponding wage for student positions in their office and/or department. It is important to keep in mind that students are to be classified and paid for the job they are performing and not their innate ability or availability of funds.

Initial Classification : A student hired for the first time into a position for which they have no previous experience or training will be assigned to the Student Employee I, Step 1 (SEI:1) classification. After completing 200 hours of work, unless a negative performance report has been filed by their supervisor, the employee will be automatically raised to the Student Employee I, Step 2 (SEI:2) classification. Promotion to Student Employee II, Step1 and Step 2 classifications will automatically follow annually, provided the unit's supervisor has not filed a negative performance report. For most employees, the Student Employee II, Step 2 classification will be the highest classification that can be reached without specific promotion either the higher and more skilled Student Employee III or IV classifications.

Classification Changes Beyond SEII : Upon recommendation by a unit supervisor, and approval of the Director of Library STudent Personnel and the University Student Employment office, a student employee ma be promoted to either the Student Employee III or Student Employee IV classifications. Step increases within the classification will automatically follow annually up to the highest step level within the classification.
