Liberal Studies
Mission Statement
The CSU, Chico Liberal Studies Program commits to ensure academic rigor in preparing students who will become the professionals, mentors, and leaders in our nation’s schools and throughout society. Academic excellence and commitment to the values of diversity, community, collaboration, and an appreciation for aesthetics distinguish our program graduates.
The program views learning as a transformative, socially interactive process. Engagement in this process requires critical intellectual inquiry, reflection, collaboration, and the exploration of the interconnectedness and relationships among the disciplines, society, and our own humanity. Learning is also enhanced by the use of varying technologies to facilitate research, increase understanding, and promote communication with a variety of audiences in an increasingly diverse world. Furthermore, the connection between theory and practice is valued as essential for students to become informed and inquiring members of society, and to serve their community.
