The prospects for teaching in California are very good. Education leaders predict a need for many qualified teachers in California in the coming years. Entry-level teachers can expect better salaries, improved benefits packages, and greater opportunity for professional development.

Consider the following facts:

California teachers are retiring. Each year many California teachers will reach retirement age. As veteran teachers retire the California Teacher's Association predict a large shortage of teachers.

Reduction of class size. As part of an effort to improve the quality of teaching in public schools, federal and state educational policymakers have recognized a need to reduce class size. Lower student-teacher ratios will compound the need for more teachers nationwide, according to the National Education Association.
