Renewal:
Books may be renewed for an additional loan period.
Books may be renewed "physically" or "electronically."
The following restrictions apply:
Books for which a recall or hold has been
placed may not be renewed.
Books that are overdue cannot be renewed
"electronically."
The renewal period for books begins on March 01.
Physical Renewal:
Books presented at Circulation for renewal are "physically"
renewed, and may be renewed an unlimited number of times except
for items for which recalls or holds have been placed. Books may
be physically renewed at any time after March 01, including and
after the due date of April 15.
Electronic Renewal:
Books may be renewed electronically, one
time, following the initial loan period or following a
"physical" renewal, with the exception of books with
recalls and/or holds and books that are overdue; i.e., books cannot
be electronically renewed after the faculty due date, April 15.
Books that have been renewed electronically once must be returned
to the library for "physical" renewal for another loan
period.
Overdue/Unreturned Books:
Faculty will be notified of overdue items.
Faculty will be billed for items not returned subsequent to overdue
notification.
Faculty circulation privileges will be blocked until overdue items
have been returned, renewed, or paid for.
Faculty accounts for unreturned items will be submitted to the
State Franchise Tax Board for recovery through offsetting state
income tax refunds.
Faculty circulation privileges will resume when the full amount
has been recovered through tax offset or payment of the balance
has been remitted to the library and/or the books have been returned.
Placing Holds:
Faculty may place "holds" on books checked out to other
patrons. The books will be "recalled" and the faculty
member will be notified upon receipt of the books.
Recalling Books:
Faculty in possession of a recalled book should return the book
immediately, but no later than the recall
due date noted on the recall request. The recall due date
will not decrease the loan period of the recalled book to less
than 21 days from the time of checkout. At the time of return,
the faculty member may place a hold on the book, and it will be
held for the faculty member after the other patron has returned
the book. A $20.00 nonrefundable fine and a bill for replacement
cost of the book will be issued for an overdue recalled book.
Faculty circulation privileges will be blocked until overdue fines
have been paid and books have been returned or paid for. Faculty
accounts for overdue fines and unreturned books will be submitted
to the State Franchise Tax Board for recovery through offsetting
state income tax refunds. Faculty circulation privileges will
resume when the full amount has been recovered through tax offset
or payment of the balance has been remitted to the library for
overdue fines and books or the books have been returned (the overdue
fines are not refundable).
