The Periodical Reading Room is open the same hours
as the main library.
What's in the Periodical Reading Room:
Current issues of professional, scientific
and technical journals, popular magazines and selected daily
local, national and foreign newspapers are found in the
library's Periodical Reading Room. Periodicals are held
in this location for up to twelve months, after which time
they are bound into hard covers and shelved in the main
periodical stacks located on the east side of 2nd floor,
or until they are received on microfilm or discarded. Newspapers
are kept for no more than three months in paper format.
A few newspapers, such as the Chico Enterprise-Record, San
Francisco Chronicle, Times of London and the Wall Street
Journal, are reproduced on microfilm after the three month
period and housed in the Microform collection on the west
side of the 2nd floor just outside the Reading Room. |

| Who can use:
The Periodical Reading Room is designed as self-service, open
stack area for making available to university students, faculty,
staff and the general public current issues of professional,
scientific and technical journals, popular magazines and newspapers.
The collections are arranged in Library of Congress call number
order. To facilitate the locating of materials, patrons can
use the Library Catalog via the ReSEARCH Station, located within
the Reading Room and throughout the library for subscription
information and copy availability. For the convenience of all
patrons, periodical and newspaper items must be used and remain
inside the Reading Room. For those who wish to make copies
of materials, a number of photocopy machines are located within
the Reading Room which a student ID card with value added,
and the faculty and staff's 'University Services Card'.
Loan Periods:
Periodical items may be checked-out only by university faculty,
with rare and restricted circulation by item to students with
written permission from a Reference Librarian and presentation
of a valid campus identification card. All checkouts are for
24 hours.
Charges:
Late fees are $.50 per hour and accrue to a maximum of $20.00.
Fines are computed and recorded for each hour of each calendar
day, whether the library is open or closed.
