Cal Docs Introduction

California documents classification numbers are assigned at the California State Library and based on the California State Agency Classification System.

1st line: based on keyword in publishing agency's name (alpha-numeric/whole numbers)
2nd line: keyword in title (alpha-numeric/decimal)
3rd line: years, bulletins, numbers, etc.

Cal Doc Shelving Tips:

1. First line is alpha number -- whole numbers.
The first line is based on an agency keyword with whole numbers.
Here is an example of the shelving sequence:

cal doc C810<<< M4 No. 49

cal doc C815<<< S8 V.59

cal doc C1050<<< C6b 2002-2003

2. Second line is alpha numeric -- decimal numbers.
The second line is cuttered for a keyword in the title, then a decimal number sequence.
Here are some examples of the shelving sequence:

cal doc F650 O55<<< F86z	cal doc F650 O8<<< vol.58	cal doc F650 O95<<< .
cal doc J250 C7rs<<< B8 1993	cal doc J250 C722<<< 2000 .	cal doc J250 O75<<< 2002 .
