United States Documents
U.S. Docs Introduction
  • CSUChico, Meriam Library became a federal depository in 1962 and currently selects 28% of the available documents (CSU,Chico U.S.docs has approximately 688,000 items). Documents may be books, periodicals, microfiche, pamphlets, maps, diskettes, CD-ROMs, DVD-ROMs and Internet sites.
  • Government Documents are shelved according to the Superintendent of Documents call number (SuDocs) on the 4th floor, Meriam Library. Gov.Doc CD-ROMs/DVD-ROMs are housed on the 1st floor Limited Loan and Gov.Doc microfiche/microfilm are kept on the 2nd floor west side. Maps are cataloged in Library of Congress and are also housed on the 4th floor.

Cal Docs Introduction
  • Meriam Library is a complete depository for California documents (since 1962). CSU, Chico Cal docs has approximately 115,000 items.
  • Cal docs are arranged by California State Library Classification Number (based on Calif. State Agency Authority List).
  • Beginning Jan. 1997 all new cal docs are cataloged in Meriam Library Online Catalog (also contains selected older cal docs)
  • Cal doc card catalog is located on the 2nd floor. 1997 the last year cards were filled into the cal doc card catalog.
  • E-mail a cal doc reference question to gbranson@csuchico.edu or Ask a Librarian E-mail. Reference service (530-898-5834) is available on the 2nd floor during the semester. (see the hours chart for the reference desk schedule)

  1. California Documents collection houses several periodical/serial publications, however few are indexed in the major commercial indexes.
  2. California periodicals receive a cal docs classification number (assigned by the California State Library). A few titles are classified in Library of Congress held in the 2nd floor Periodicals.
