description of the most important collections, where they are
located, and what you will find in them.

Government
Documents – 4th floor (show
me where)
The Library is a selective depository for government documents
published by the governments of the United States and the
State of California. (Note: Many documents are issued to
us or available only in an electronic format.) Documents
that have been cataloged are listed in the Library Catalog.
For assistance in identifying and locating government documents,
go to the Government Documents
page or inquire at the Reference Desk on the 2nd floor
of the library. |

Special
Collections – 3rd floor (show

The Special Collections is made up of three collections
the Northeastern California Collection (N.E. Cal), CSU,
Chico University Archives, and Rare Book & Manuscripts.
The N.E. Cal collection represents all aspects of local
and regional history, public policy, environment and historic
maps and photographs. All of these collections are non-circulating
area because of rarity, source, condition or form. Access
to the material is provided primarily through the Meriam
Library's online Library Catalog. Use of these items is
limited to the Special Collections reading room. |

Curriculum
& Juvenile – 4th floor (show
me where)
This collection consists of curriculum guides, special
education tests, children and young adult books, K-12
textbook series, frameworks for California, and teaching
aids. Access to these materials is through the Library

Maps
– 4th floor (show

The collection provides world-wide coverage through a variety
of political, road, vegetation, physical, economic and outline
maps. The Library is a depository for maps issued by the
state of California and the United States Government, including
the Forest Service, National Park Service, Geological Survey,
Soil Survey, National Ocean Survey, Dept. of Defense and
CIA. For assistance in identifying and locating maps go

Nonprint media includes video cassettes, DVDs, video discs,
computer software, filmstrips, slide tapes, audiocassettes
and records. Playback equipment is available.
Reserve

Materials that instructors designate for limited check out
to make available for their classes. Many items are now
on Electronic Reserve

Second Floor:

Reference Collection –

Books such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, almanacs, directories
and statistical resources are found in this collection.
Periodicals Collection –

Current issues of journals and magazines the library subscribes
to are located in the Current Periodicals Reading Room.
Older issues are bound and shelved in the Periodicals Stacks.
Microform

Some newspapers, journals, government documents, and occasionally
books are available on microform.
