We strive for excellence -- collections that meet the information needs of our
academic community; services that are effective and responsive; and partnerships
that contribute to a valuable university education and foster life-long learning.
We are dedicated to the principle of open access to collections and the free
exchange of information.
Our Mission Our mission is to prepare CSU, Chico students to live
in the information economy; who are information literate
in their chosen field; and can use information and knowledge
effectively in their chosen career or profession and
as informed citizens.
We accomplish this mission by supporting
the learning, teaching, research, and service priorities
of California State University , Chico by offering collections,
services and programs which facilitate student learning;
reflect a commitment to lifelong learning and information
literacy; support research and enquiry; and, support
information needs in northeastern California . We contribute
to the learning community by shaping services and collections
for the academic community on and off-campus. We provide
an environment conducive to study, research and reflection.

Our Strategic Directions:
Goal 1: Believing in the
primacy of student learning, we will continue to develop
high quality learning environments both in and outside
the classroom. The library will develop, establish
and continually improve learning centered programs,
collections and services.
A. Shape library collections and electronic resources
to support the evolving research and curricular needs
of the campus in light of expanding needs and reduced
resources.
B. Identify and support active programs of library instruction, information literacy
and the wise use of technology in research both in the library and in partnership
with classroom faculty.
C. Develop and assess programs, policies, and services that maintain a high quality,
safe, convenient and congenial environment to support teaching and learning.
D. Partner with the campus to strengthen campus' knowledge of intellectual property,
E. Provide an environment where engagement with resources, the search for knowledge
and freedom on inquiry are valued.
GOAL 2: Believing in the
importance of faculty and staff and their role in student
success, we will concinue to invest in faculty and staff development.
A. Be active citizens of the campus community.
B. Mentor probationary library faculty to develop and mature as engaged professionals
and to succeed in the RTP process.
C. Continue vigorous professional lives through active attendance at conferences
and meetings and contributions to librarianship via appropriate publications
and presentations.
D. Support the continuing education of faculty and staff.
E. Ensure the best use of the library's most valuable resource, its faculty,
staff and student employees.
Goal 3: Believing in the
value of the wise use of new technologies in learning
and teaching, we will continue to provide the technology,
the related training and the support needed to create
high quality learning environments both in and outside
the classroom.
A. Continue the development of the ReSEARCH Station
as a current, reliable and robust gateway to library
resources and information.
B. Pursue digital and preservation initiatives to foster learning and research
C. Use technology wisely to create tools services that improve and facilitate
access to information.
Goal 4: Believing in the
value of service to others, we will continue to serve
the educational, cultural, and economic needs of Northern
California .
A. Serve as a regional resource to groups with mutual
interests
B. Actively participate in cooperative agreements with northeastern California
libraries.
C. Participate in service to the community
Goal 5: Believing that
we are accountable to the people of the State of California
, we will continue to diversify our sources and revenue and manage the resources
entrusted to us.
A. Pursue external funding to support
library programs.
B. Continue to manage the library budget effectively for staff, programs and
collections, and to be good stewards of the resources entrusted to our care.
