How Do You Find an Index/Database?

Although the library has many print indexes, you will mostly be searching in online databases. Select "Articles & Databases" in the upper left-hand corner of the screen.

Selecting "Articles & Databases" will take you to a screen that looks like the one below:

Choosing an Index/Database?

As you can see, there are several ways to choose a database. Two of the most popular methods are: 1) Databases A - Z (listed alphabetically by title), and 2) Databases by Subject (listed by broad academic subject categories)

1. Databases and Indexes A - Z (listed by title)
  • If you know the name of the database you are looking for, select it from the list.
2. Databases by Subject:
  • If you would like to see lists of specific databases that are applicable to broad academic subject areas (ex. Psychology), select one of the many subjects listed under "Databases by Subject".

  • Note: some subject areas have lists that contain both online databases and print indexes (indicated with the statement "In the library" followed by a Call Number). All print indexes will be located on the 2nd floor of the Meriam Library.

Searching Specific Databases

Because online indexes/databases have a variety of interfaces, or search engines, this tutorial will not cover how to search individual databases. For information about searching a particular database, click on the help button/link within that database. And, for general information about conducting good searches in online databases, see the ChicoOASIS information literacy tutorial.
