What is the Library Catalog?

The Meriam Library Catalog is an online database of approximately 1 million records representing items owned by the Meriam Library including:

• books
• journals
• newspapers
• government documents
• photographs
  
• DVDs
• compact discs
• maps

Why do I need the Library Catalog?

Using the Library Catalog allows you to quickly determine if the library has an item you want and to find where it is located. Search the library catalog to find books, videos, maps and government documents to help you with your coursework, papers, and projects.

You can search the Library Catalog by:

• keywords
• author
• title
• subject
• call numbers

Once you've found what you're looking for, the Library Catalog will tell you:

• Where the item is located (collection and floor)
• If the item is checked out or available
• If the item is at the bindery (for journals only)
• If the item is available online

Some great features of the Library Catalog include:

• The ability to Request a book that is checked out. You will be notified (via e-mail) to pick it up at the Circulation Desk when it is returned.
• The ability to Save multiple records for viewing, printing, or e-mailing.
• The ability to save preferred searches and receive e-mails when new items that match your search are added to the catalog.
• A link to My Library Account to see what books you have checked out or requested. You can also renew most books online one time.
• A link to the Periodicals List to identify what periodicals (newspapers, magazines, journals) the library has, in print as well as electronic form.
• A link to Reserve Materials where you can find items your instructors have put in the library or online for you to read.
