THE LOCALIZATION AND E-MARKETING TRACK

The Localization Track offers courses to train students in international e-marketing, issues regarding software and web site localization, project management, cultural customization, and an ability to conduct cross-national research so as to implement and manage international web sites and software applications.

COURSES

•  Introduction to Marketing (3 credit units - 16 weeks)

MKTG 305: Survey of Marketing (pre-requisite for MKTG 371)

Nature and functions of marketing systems and marketing in the individual firm. Study of the marketing mix, marketing institutions, and the environments in which marketing decisions are made.

•  E-marketing (3 credit units - 16 weeks)

MKTG 465: E-Marketing

Study if the changes in the marketplace created by the increasing utilization of technological tools to perform traditional marketing functions. The course provides insight into strategies and tactics which can be used to implement and manage electronic marketing initiatives.

•  International Marketing (3 credit units - 16 weeks)

MKTG 477: International Marketing

A study of all aspects of marketing unique to international business. Examines the impact of cultures, ethics, history, politics, and social customs on marketing thinking and practices worldwide.

•  Web Localization Issues (3 credit units - 16 weeks)

MKTG 566: Web Localization Issues

Broad areas include: Introduction to web globalization, internationalization and localization, international e-strategy, translation technology, localization process, localization kit, TM, Global Content Management, project management, cultural user interface design, cross-cultural issues and research.

•  Advanced Topics in Localization Research (3 credit units - 16 weeks)

MKTG 399: Advanced Topics in Localization

Students will be required to write a major research paper on a chosen area of localization research, or student can undertake an internship and write a report based on that learning experience. They will also be exposed to Unicode, XML, HTML, project management (advanced), Arabic and Chinese, TM, and translation technologies.

ELECTIVES: (CHOOSE 1)

•  Project Management MGMT 444: (3 credits - 16 weeks)

Creating team effectiveness and developing project management skills. Includes coverage of the nine project management body of knowledge areas required for professional certification by PMI, the professional code of ethics, and the benefits of diversity on team performance. The course requires use of information technology including spreadsheets, Web-based file storage and sharing, electronic presentations and use of project management software.

•  Language Courses : (3 credits - 16 weeks)

Students will take a basic Foreign Language courses from Department of Foreign Languages.

Optional Non-Credit Workshop

(Leading to certification in localization)

Summer workshop will be 3-4 days filled with intensive training from industry experts in Localization. This will be complemented with online material. Advanced topic related to Localization engineering, Project Management, Unicode, TM, Usability Testing, etc. More Info
