About
This Index:
The purpose of these indices is to provide users with a source
of local information related to campus and community issues.
The user may find information in both newspapers on a particular
subject but may find it useful to target a specific topic
by narrowing searches to one newspaper only. For instance,
campus issues are more thoroughly covered and accessible by
using The Orion as a source, while wider, community
based issues are generally covered in depth by the Chico
News and Review. Although not mutually exclusive, this
is the advice we give to users as a rule of thumb.
Our indexes do not cover incidental stories, reviews, or editorials;
because of time and resource constraints, we index only major
topical stories. Please browse the subject authority list
(the list we use to index articles) as a starting point for
your search.
The Orion is indexed from February 4, 1981 to present,
Chico News & Review is indexed from January 20,
1983 to present. Currently these papers are being added on
a regular basis. To find a specific newspaper not yet listed
in the index, please consult Special Collections staff.
