MCGS will offer four specialized intern positions for the Spring of 2018

Update: As of Spring 2018, the internship in Outreach and Public Relations has been merged into a single title with two active positions available.

Detailed list of each position below:

1) Outreach and Public Relations

Two Positions Available 

120-150 hours each 

Reporting structure: 

Frontline supervision (Lead) will be MCGS student assistants and general oversight supervision will be performed by program ASC.


This position will be responsible for online presence to include updating and maintaining MCGS Social Media sites, marketing strategies, and Chico State internal liaison.

Social Media sites include:

  • MCGS Chico state Website
  • Facebook
  • Instagram
  • Twitter
  • Press Releases – outreach to campus, local, and regional media

Marketing Strategies:

  • Implementation and updating of marketing strategy
  • Coordinate with Graphics Intern
  • Spring intern will update and implement spring strategy and then develop strategy for the next fall

Acts as Internal Liaison at Chico State.  This position will conduct internal outreach to specified groups on campus

  • Outreach to student groups, units, organization, departments, high schools, junior colleges, and community groups as assigned by Director
  • Develop relationships with leaders across campus
  • Attend and perform presentations about MCGS to organizations in the community
  • Develop relationships with community leaders, groups, and populations
2) Graphic Designer

60-120 hours per semester

Reporting structure: 

Frontline supervision (Lead) will be MCGS student assistants and general oversight supervision will be performed by program ASC.


This intern is responsible for creating promotional documents, coordination for document consistency across all platforms, and website management.  Close coordination with both campus and community outreach interns will be necessary.

Development and design of program marketing document

  • Department branding
    • Signage
    • Letterhead
    • Templates (e.g. press release)
    • Website
  • Posters/Flyers
    • Course Offerings
    • Event Posters

Responsible for continuity of promotional material across all platforms

  • Poster/Flyers
  • Department Website
  • Event Promotion
  • Presentation PowerPoints
  • Design for Social Media sites

Responsible for MCGS website

  • Website Design
  • Website Maintenance and Updates



3) Research and Program Development

90-150 hours per semester

Reporting structure: 

Reports to Director


This position will assist the Director in conducting research of other Ethnic Studies, Multicultural Studies, Sexuality Studies, Women’s Studies and Gender Studies departments throughout the country and developing departmental level programmatic and curricular changes.

Research

  • Assist director with research to find best practices from proven successful programs

Develop Program Strategy

  • Assist with the development of program strategic plan at department level
  • Assist with curricular development
4) Event Coordinator

120-150 hours per semester

Reporting structure: 

Frontline supervision (Lead) will be MCGS student assistants and general oversight supervision will be performed by program ASC.


This position will coordinate with Outreach Interns and the Student Staff on planning, implementing, and working events sponsored, hosted, or held by MCGS. Tasks include:

Keep physical and electronic versions of documents used at events:

  • Event Posters
  • Event Flyers
  • MCGS website
  • Curriculum
  • Articles

Coordinate with Graphics Intern

Tabling information and items:

  • Keeping the Tabling box inventory up to date
  • Working know how of the department to answer rudimentary questions
  • keeping track of tabling collateral
  • staffing for events
  • keeping dates for events MCGS is invited to
  • readying materials for events according to their theme/program/audience
