The Chicano Studies Minor is one of seven minors offered by the Department of Multicultural and Gender Studies. Chicano Studies emerged in the late 1960's in an attempt to systematically meet the social, cultural and educational needs of people of Mexican descent.
A foundation was laid and work began on the structure of a discipline dedicated to the pursuit and dissemination of knowledge about the experience of the Mexican American people. As a result of ongoing efforts, the discipline of Chicano Studies has developed during its 35 plus years, and students are now able to participate in this relevant field of study.

The minor is particularly suitable for those students preparing to enter the field of teaching and other professions dealing with Mexican American and Latin communities, such as law, business, journalism, social work, public administration, medicine, mental health, child development, and special education. |
