The History of CHST at Chico State
The development of a solid Chicano/a Studies program at Chico State was not as easy a road as it would have seemed. In fact even after the Santa Barbara Conference in 1969, Chico State would not have a genuine program until 27 years later.

As a testament to this struggle, our advisor Dr. Susan M. Green complied a history of our program entitled, "Your Cogent Arguments Haven't (as yet) Resulted in our Capitulation": The Birth of MAST at Chico State College.

Abstract: " The history of CSUC is important to learn for anyone trying to create or revive a Chicana/o Studies Program Department in a rural, isolated location. Oddly although located in California where Latinos are the majority population, Chico State is the second whitest campus of the 23 in the CSU system. The strategies employed here to maintain and develop the program are useful to those who teach where Chicano/a students are not the majority."

Psst MEChistAs, ....

Check out this cool cartoon I found on the web the other day. It's called Super Chicano and it is a political satire based on the East LA Blowouts.

It's created by Adolfo Rodriguez, so give him some props and visit his site.
