MSP's Model

  • Individual Academic Plans (IAPs) so MESA counselors can monitor individual student progress.
  • Academic Excellence Workshops where students are scheduled in core classes and taught how to maintain high academic standards through group study.
  • MESA Periods provide a regular designated time during the school day for MESA Advisors (usually math and science teachers) to implement the MESA Model components.
  • PSAT, SAT and ACT preparation for MESA students.
  • Study skills training so students at all levels learn the most effective techniques for academic achievement.
  • MESA Day where students compete for awards in hands-on math, science and English activities at local and regional levels.
  • Career and college exploration through field trips to industry and college sites, opportunities to hear guest speakers from industry, etc.
  • Incentive awards where students receive cash and non-cash awards for outstanding academic achievement, participation and leadership.
  • Parent leadership training where parents learn how to become effective advocates for their children's academic success.
  • Extracurricular intensive including Saturday Academies, summer programs, and activities between sessions (for year-round schools) to stimulate excitement for math, science and academic achievement.
