2e. Professional uses of the degree program.

Career opportunities are found in many areas:

  • In Jewish¡community-based jobs, such as Jewish education, Jewish communal and philanthropic organizations, and synagogues; in the United States and overseas, especially Israel.
  • In jobs outside of the Jewish community, such as social service organizations, higher education, organizations and companies that work with Jewish constituencies and clients, companies that do business with Israel (many opportunities in high tech businesses), and government (such as the State Department and Foreign Service).
  • In preparation for advanced degrees, whether in Jewish Studies or other fields. (SFSU is currently supervising four Individual Program M.A. students, one of whom has been accepted into a Ph.D. program; CSU, Chico is supervising one M.A. candidate.)
  • In preparation for the rabbinate or other religious positions, including non-Jewish clergy. (SFSU has one graduate who has gone on to post-graduate training at a Jewish seminary, and another is planning to do so.)
