5. ABSTRACT OF THE PROPOSAL AND THE CATALOG DESCRIPTION.

ATTACH AN ABSTRACT OF THE FORGOING PROPOSAL, NOT TO EXCEED TWO PAGES, AND COMPLETE CATALOG DESCRIPTION, INCLUDING ADMISSION AND DEGREE REQUIREMENTS.

Three universities: CSU, Chico, San Diego State University, and San Francisco State will jointly offer courses toward a major in Modern Jewish Studies. Each campus will offer courses that will be divided among the campuses based on a negotiated agreement. Students will take core courses from their home campus, use their home general education and electives, and use the consortium major in Modern Jewish Studies to get their B.A. Each of the three campuses will award the B.A. Students may take distance-based courses only when the home campus does not offer those courses. Exceptions to this policy may be made in consultation with a Modern Jewish Studies adviser. All courses are three units unless otherwise noted.

42-43 semester units required for the major

Whenever possible, students must take courses from their home campus. They may take distance-based courses only when the home campus does not offer those courses. Exceptions to this policy may be made in consultation with a Jewish Studies adviser.

To present the picture of which courses will be available, we have included a listing of courses offered by each of the consortium campuses. No courses may be used to satisfy requirements in more than one area. All courses are three units unless otherwise noted.
