Appendix A: Administrative and Advising Plan
A program administrator will be elected from among the coordinators
and directors of the three Jewish Studies programs who are
partners in the Modern Jewish Studies major. Normally, the
program administrator will serve for three years and can serve
for no more than two consecutive terms.
The coordinating council will consist of the directors or
coordinators of the Modern Jewish Studies Program partners.
They will meet at least twice a year to review the schedule
and will act as a curriculum and policy committee for the
consortium program as well as develop a fundraising plan for
developing an endowment fund. Each program director will be
responsible for assuring compliance with the academic policies
of his or her respective campus.
The duties of the administrator will be to promote the major;
coordinate the course offerings and prepare the schedule of
distance education courses per semester; and administer and
distribute any funds to the partner programs. In addition,
the coordinator will organize periodic meetings between the
partner Jewish Studies directors and be responsible for a
student-advising plan.
The administrator will receive .20 release time and an operating
budget. Start up funds of $50,000 have already been provided
by the San Francisco Jewish Federation, The Koret Foundation,
and the CSU, Chancellor's Office.
Advising:
The coordinators and directors of the participating campus
Jewish Studies programs will assign students to advisors.
The Modern Jewish Studies Coordinating Committee will prepare
a schedule of courses on a two-year rotation to guarantee
students' ability to complete the major in that time frame.
Program coordinators will work to align their campus courses
with the consortium major to reduce duplication and assure
students will have sufficient course work to complete the
degree in a timely manner.
