Capstone Design Program

Welcome to the Capstone Design Program for Mechanical & Mechatronic Engineering at Chico State University.

The Capstone Design experience is a two-semester course sequence where students utilize competencies developed in their first three years in the solution of a real-world design problem. Projects are typically sponsored by industrial partners, giving students the opportunity to work on real-world problems and interface with professionals in the field.

All project work is accomplished in groups, typically ranging from three to six students each with four being the norm. The fall semester is predominantly spent in design activities, while the spring encompasses prototype building and testing. Students must meet several milestones throughout the year, including oral presentations, written reports, and the Design Expo. Each project team is assigned a Faculty Advisor for the duration of the project.
