About MSP
The MESA Schools Program (MSP) is an academic preparation and
math/science enrichment program that partners with schools to
provide eligible students with a variety of innovative services
and opportunities. MSP assists students in increasing their educational
performance, and becoming better prepared for a college and university
education. Further, MSP helps students expand their math and science
knowledge, and learn more about the exciting career opportunities
in related fields.
MSP is administered by the University of California through
local MSP centers at public and private universities throughout
the state, and is funded by the state legislature, industry contributions
and grants.
-
The MSP Center at California State University , Chico serves
over 200 students in grades 7-12 from participating school
sites in Butte , Colusa, Glenn and Sutter Counties.
Services and activities are typically provided at the school
site through afterschool programs and/or MESA elective courses
offered at a regularly scheduled time during the school day. Activities
are lead by school-site math or science teachers, called MESA
Advisors. On occasion, special trips or events are also held on
Saturdays.
CSU Chico MSP Center’s Vision:
To motivate, support, and prepare underrepresented and disadvantaged
students in order to increase their number in undergraduate programs
at four-year universities with an emphasis in engineering and
other mathematics or science-based fields of study.
